Life imitates art or vice versa?

Oscar Wilde considered that life imitates art far more than art imitates life and in the wider scheme of things he may be right. However Eddie Redmayne’s depiction of physicist Stephen Hawking in the film The Theory of Everything is a truly remarkable portrayal of life, relationships and scientific endeavours whilst dealing with an advancing debilitating illness. Also, Benedict Cumberbatch recently gave resonance to the brilliance, the anguish and ultimately the tragedy of cryptanalyst Alan Turing in the film The Imitation Game. Life can have travails but perhaps both Oscar and the Oscars can be a source of both thought and inspiration.
